Reifu 霊符 are paper talismans with supernatural incantations and magic symbols on them that have the ability to draw powers from the Universe and Spirit to help manifest intentions. It is considered to be sacred and a form of vessel for Spirit as it has the ability to possess the essence of Kami (Spiritual Higher Powers) and their humble servants (dragon spirits, fox spirits, etc).

 

In Japan, Reifus are usually created by priests and monks. Traditional spiritual mediums who practice folk magick and occultism may also offer such talismans.
